TRIUMF, Canada's national research facility for particle and nuclear physics, has an immediate opening for a Java Software Developer to join its µSR User Facility, which provides a large international group of users with access to TRIUMF's µSR facilities, including experimental apparatus and data visualization/analysis tools.  The software developer will be involved in implementing the next phase of the µSR Java GUI project, whose current status is described at the Web site http://musr.org/gui/.

The primary responsibility of this 2 year contract position will be to create a Java interface for various Linux server based Fortran packages used to analyze µSR data.  The software developer will be required to produce and document the code so that it can be maintained and upgraded in the future, and will also be expected to train other staff in its use so that they can in turn pass on this understanding to users.  The server hardware specifications will await the appointment of the successful candidate.  Applicants being considered for the position will have experience with Java programming, including applets and RMI servers, will have an ability to construct Java "wrappers", and will be competent in using FORTRAN.  Familiarity with Database programming and CORBA will be considered an asset.  Excellent project management and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to interact with all levels of professional and technical staff.  Second year university level mathematics or the equivalent in relevant training and experience is required.
