CONFERENCES

The 12th International Conference on Muon Spin Rotation, Relaxation and Resonance will be held in Cancun, Mexico in May 2011. The conference is being organized by Jeff Sonier and the Americas chapter of ISMS. Visit the µSR2011 Website at   http://musr2011.triumf.ca for details.

The 11th such Conference was held in Tsukuba, Japan, 21-25 July 2008. The 2008 conference was organized by the KEK Muon Science Laboratory, RIKEN Nishina Center, and JAEA Adavanced Science Research Center. Please visit the µSR2008 Website at   http://msr08.riken.jp/ or click on the CONFERENCES link (above right) for details.

Every three years (see ISMS Newsletter #1) the ISMS awards a $3000

ISMS Toshimitsu Yamazaki Prize for µSR Science

for outstanding, sustained work in µSR science with long-term impact on scientific and/or technical µSR applications.

The inaugural Yamazaki prize was awarded in 2005 to Prof. Yasutomo J. Uemura at a special ceremony session of µSR05, the International Conference on µSR held at Oxford, UK, in August 2005. (See ISMS Newsletter #4 for details.)

The 2008 Yamazaki Prize was awarded to Dr. Elvezio Morenzoni at the µSR conference in Tsukuba, Japan.

In addition, four

  ISMS Young Researcher Awards

were given to students or first-time postdocs based on papers submitted to the µSR05 Conference. This tradition will be continued at subsequent µSR Conferences.

To be considered the paper should be accompanied by a statement from the researcher's supervisor saying that the work is primarily that of the potential recipient. Winners receive a monetary reward and Medal. For more details, see the µSR05 Website.

Finally, but first on the µSR05 program schedule, four

  ISMS Lifetime Achievement Awards

were given to members of the community whose contributions were considered to be meritorious. This tradition is also meant to continue at subsequent µSR Conferences.
